stevenโs STORY:
Steven has no memories of his father and was told he died of HIV/AIDS when Steven was a young boy. After this, his mother quit her job at a local restaurant and the two of them moved to Lira. Life was very hard since his mother was unemployed and just 5 months after they arrived in Lira, Stevenโs mother died of HIV/AIDS and he was left in the hands of a caretaker at age 6. His caretaker would drink heavily and regularly mistreat Steven. Feeling hopeless and looking for an escape, Steven ran away to the streets. He remembers being hungry every day and sleeping under the verandas in town, covering himself with pieces of cloth to try and stay dry and warm at night.
One day when the street children gathered to receive food and encouragement from our staff, Steven was given the opportunity for a new future at SGU. He was only 9. Steven now attends Saving Grace Primary School and is loving his new life at our village. He is deeply loved and cared for by his house mother and the entire staff at SGU. Steven is a wonderful addition to the SGU family and we are excited to see what is in store for his future!
